With all of that said, the best way to really understand home is to hear from the people who have lived there. Here is a note from the sellers.
Our family moved to the San Francisco Bay area from Portland, Oregon about 20 years ago, drawn by work, and excited to explore new opportunities in this rich and beautiful region. In considering several communities for our new home, friends and colleagues recommended that we check out Piedmont. We learned about the excellent Piedmont schools, community engagement and Piedmont’s proximity to both urban and natural landscapes – where one could enjoy a morning hike in a Redwood forest, grab an afternoon coffee on Piedmont Avenue or Mulberry’s and enjoy dinner in Oakland, Berkeley, or the City.
We spent some time visiting and were immediately drawn to the beautiful Piedmont neighborhoods and inviting homes. We discovered lovely parks and trees throughout the community, and most importantly, we noticed people of all ages exercising, walking with their children and pets, and chatting with neighbors. We appreciated that children could safely walk to school with their friends and classmates.
The entire family fell in love with 1133 Winsor. Built in 1925, the home was charming, and it was clear that previous owners had given it the attention and care it deserved. Our 9-year-old daughter was enamored with the laundry chute (still in use!) and all of us were thrilled to discover a wonderful dog park a couple of blocks away from the property. As I recall, there were several bids on the home – we were delighted that ours was accepted!
We’ve made some changes to the home in the ensuing years – always with the intent of honoring the legacy of the now nearly 100-year-old home. Through our remodels, we’ve tried to respect the original design of our home while meeting the needs of a busy modern family. Some of our favorite projects include the front courtyard and garden, dining room deck, and the customized kitchen. We’ve also updated bathrooms, enlarged the laundry, and added a very handy dog shower.
The Piedmont schools exceeded our expectations. Teachers, staff, and coaches were accessible, and provided excellent leadership and college preparation for our daughter. In addition to academics, we valued the consistent focus on community involvement and service. Even more tangible and lasting have been many friends we’ve made along the way.
We are returning to our roots in the Pacific Northwest to spend more time with our adult children and their growing families. As we look forward to this new chapter, we reflect on our time at 1133 Winsor and are so grateful for the wonderful friends and memories we’ve gathered over these many years. Winsor Avenue was exactly the right place at the right time for our family. We hope that you can be as fortunate.
